- Initial and ongoing training, mentoring, supportive supervision and effective administrative planning are critical. • Adapted clinical guidance for specific cadres with clear pathways for treatment and referral are required to support high-quality care. • Adopting task-sharing strategies often requires revising regulatory frameworks and national policies to enable new cadres of health-care workers to perform additional tasks. • WHO recommends that all health-care workers, including community health workers, be appropriately trained, remunerated and supervised (34). • National regulatory bodies, professional associations and other stakeholders need to be involved in defining the scope of practice, roles and responsibilities of health-care workers.
